J.H. Cohn Foundation Donates $150,000 to Cohn for Kids Charities through Annual Golf Invitational

7/08/2010

J.H. Cohn LLP, one of the top 15 accounting and consulting firms in the United States, donated a total of $150,000 to the Special Warrior Foundation (SOWF) and the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, two Cohn for Kids affiliated charities, through its 19th Annual Charity Golf Invitational.

Longtime J.H. Cohn Charity Golf Invitational supporter Capital One Bank was the presenting sponsor of the outing, which hosted nearly 100 golfers at Hollywood Country Club in Deal, NJ on June 21.

Through the J.H. Cohn Foundation, Cohn for Kids supports children in need, from young children to college students. SOWF provides college scholarship grants, financial aid, and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident. The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation is devoted to ending the cycle of domestic violence and loss of life through two Foundation initiatives, Margaret’s Place and Community Players.

At the awards ceremony, John T. Carney, Jr., Colonel, USAF, Retired, and president/CEO, SOWF; Judith Ann Lynn, executive director, Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation; and Jennifer Coppola, development officer, Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, accepted the donations.

In addition, Bryan “Doug” Brown, General, USA, Retired, 7th Commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, spoke at the event. General Brown retired from the U.S. Army as Commander, United States Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, where he was responsible for all special operations forces of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, both active duty and reserve. Today, he is a director for the SOWF. Randy Nantz, a wounded soldier who now works with the SOWF, also spoke, and golfed for the first time since his injury.  Steve Adubato, Emmy Award-winning THIRTEEN (PBS) anchor, media analyst, and Star-Ledger columnist, was the evening’s master of ceremonies.

“Giving back has been ingrained in our Firm culture for more than 90 years,” says Michael L. Cohen, CPA, office managing partner of J.H. Cohn’s Roseland office and director of the

J.H. Cohn Foundation. “We are proud to support these worthwhile causes, and even more proud of the tremendous work that they do to help children and young adults.”

For the past four years, J.H. Cohn has raised a combined total of more than $700,000 for these two organizations. The donations have helped support scholarships through SOWF and programs run by Safe At Home. For more information on these organizations, visit www.specialops.org and www.joetorre.org.
