Construction: Building Green

7/28/2010

Federal, state, and local governments are providing incentives for construction companies to "build green," and they've responded in droves by implementing innovative recycling practices, using renewable energy sources, and maximizing the use of efficient materials. Further, more have embraced the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, which provides standards for environmentally sustained construction, underscoring the industry's long-term commitment.

In "Building Green," Mary Amato, CPA, and Brian Kavanagh, CPA, both members of J.H. Cohn LLP's Construction Industry Practice, tackle the "build green" movement and provide a primer to help contractors understand the movement supporting green building, the rating system for new construction and renovation, and the tax advantages of "building green."
