5/19/2009

J.H. Cohn LLP has announced revenues of $246,440,000, representing 11 percent year-over-year growth, for the fiscal year ending January 31, 2009.

“This growth reflects the reputation J.H. Cohn has built over our 90-year history for honesty, technical excellence, and personalized service,” said Thomas J. Marino, CPA, chief executive officer of J.H. Cohn. “In these tough economic times, we are focused on guiding clients through challenges and helping them recognize and optimize new opportunities.”

Fiscal year 2009 highlights for J.H. Cohn, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, include:

  • The Firm became the first of its size to put an economist on staff. In March 2008, Patrick J. O’Keefe joined the Firm as director of economic research. Prior to joining J.H. Cohn, he served as CEO of the New Jersey Builders Association, where he directed corporate operations and guided public policy efforts, including interaction with legislature, judiciary, and regulatory agencies.
  • In response to the rapidly evolving financial environment, J.H. Cohn assembled a multidisciplinary group of experts to support, advise, and assist financial institutions and public corporations. The Client Economic Recovery Team (CERT), which was launched in October 2008, has the resources and expertise to assist companies navigating the challenges and opportunities that the current financial environment creates. CERT assists senior executives and Board members, and their advisors, in addressing risk management and regulatory compliance requirements, and draws on the expertise of specialists from J.H. Cohn’s Business Investigation Services, Corporate Governance Services, and Financial Services practices to assist such entities as banks, insurance firms, and credit card companies.
  • J.H. Cohn combined with Good Swartz Brown & Berns (GSBB), a full-service accounting firm with offices in Los Angeles and Woodland Hills. This combination represents J.H. Cohn’s major expansion into Southern California and the Firm’s ability to serve clients in the greater Los Angeles area and south through OrangeCounty into San Diego, where J.H. Cohn has maintained an office since 1978. GSBB now operates as Good Swartz Brown & Berns, A Division of J.H. Cohn.
  • J.H. Cohn also combined practices with Frederic Kantor & Co., PC, a Manhattan-based public accounting firm serving high-net worth individuals and families working in entertainment and the creative arts. The addition substantiates J.H. Cohn’s role as a leader in these industries. Frederic Kantor now operates as Frederic Kantor & Co., A Division of J.H. Cohn.
  • Its role as an employer of choice continued to be a top priority for J.H. Cohn in fiscal year 2009. J.H. Cohn’s recent investment in technology has enhanced the resources available to employees and has also improved remote access.
  • J.H. Cohn was voted the Best Place to Work in Connecticut by its employees and the Hartford Business Journal; one of the top three Best Place to Work in the San Fernando Valley by the Firm’s employees and the San Fernando Valley Business Journal; and among the top seven Best Places to Work in New Jersey by its employees and NJBIZ. In addition, the New Jersey Business and Industry Association named J.H. Cohn one of the GardenState’s Outstanding Employers, and the Firm’s Professional Women’s Program was named Garden State Woman magazine’s Women’s Initiative Organization of the Year.
