Los Angeles, CA – September 24, 2008 – Accounting and consulting firm Good Swartz Brown & Berns, A Division of J.H. Cohn (GSBB/J.H. Cohn) was recently honored by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal as one of the "Best Places to Work in the San Fernando Valley." The firm ranked among the top three companies in the medium-sized business category.
"This recognition underscores our dedication to our employees and our commitment to establishing initiatives that support work-life balance and professional growth," said Scott Sachs, Regional Managing Partner, Greater Los Angeles Area.
In June, GSBB, with offices in Warner Center and Los Angeles, CA, combined practices with J.H. Cohn, one of the top 20 accounting and consulting firms in the United States. The combination provides GSBB/J.H. Cohn clients with access to J.H. Cohn’s broad audit, tax, consulting, and specialized industry expertise. The combination also represents J.H. Cohn’s major expansion in Southern California, increasing its ability to serve clients in the greater Los Angeles area and south through Orange County into San Diego, where J.H. Cohn has maintained an office since 1978.
Among the offerings that contributed to this award are GSBB/J.H. Cohn’s health benefits plan, which is available to employees working as few as 23 hours a week; the firm’s "run club," softball team, and soccer team that promote camaraderie and wellness; and meal reimbursement for employees who work more than 10 hours a day. In addition, the firm recognizes the personal achievements employees through promotions and monetary recognition and offers a 100 percent tuition reimbursement option for classes that will benefit employees’ careers at the firm.
Other employee initiatives include:
- Learning and Development. Employees have access to a Learning and Development department that offers long-term learning paths and resource materials for both technical knowledge, such as audit work process, and "enabling skills," including communication and networking.
- J.H. Cohn Professional Women’s Program. The Professional Women’s Program, which recognizes the unique challenges faced by women in the workplace, addresses women’s personal and career objectives with diverse training and professional development. This October, GSBB/J.H. Cohn professional women will participate in the Firm’s first California-based conference, featuring a keynote speech on the topic of emotional intelligence.
- Mentoring. The mentoring program is offered to professional staff at all levels. The relationships built through the program often continue once the formal process concludes and employees benefit from the unparalleled input and professional insight of senior colleagues.
In order to receive the recognition, GSBB/J.H. Cohn employees completed surveys addressing their views and satisfaction of firm initiatives. Earlier this year, J.H. Cohn was named among the top five Best Places to Work in New Jersey.
