NJSCPA Monmouth/Ocean Chapter Donates $50k to Scholarship Fund

The Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) has donated $50,000 to the NJSCPA Scholarship Fund in honor of the Fund’s 50th anniversary.
Rich Vermeulen, CPA, a J.H. Cohn LLP senior manager who serves as president of the State Society’s Monmouth/Ocean Chapter, said the NJSCPA Scholarship Program is one of the most successful private scholarship programs in the state.
"Each year, the NJSCPA Scholarship Fund provides dozens of deserving high school and college students with much-needed funds for education and promotes the accounting profession as a great career choice," he explained, noting that the donation was raised from revenues generated from the continuing professional education courses and miscellaneous Chapter social events held throughout the year. “This is a critical time for our profession and it’s a critical time for students who may, due to the economy, need an extra financial boost. Contributing to this fund is win-win for us all.”
Founded in 1960, the NJSCPA Scholarship Fund was designed to attract the best and brightest New Jersey students into the accounting profession while increasing awareness about the opportunities provided by a CPA career path. The Fund Board has said that, due to the down economy, it anticipates scholarship dollars will be down approximately 20 percent this year from the $402,000 that was awarded in 2009.
