Patrick J. Duffany Joins J.H. Cohn’s State and Local Tax Group

Patrick Duffany, CPA, J.D., has joined J.H. Cohn LLP, one of the top 15 accounting and consulting firms in the United States, as a partner in the Firm’s Glastonbury, CT office.

As part of J.H. Cohn’s State and Local Tax (SALT) Group, Patrick specializes in multistate taxation with an emphasis on New York and Connecticut matters.

“Patrick has significant hands-on experience with the local tax issues that impact our clients,” said Kenneth J. Kanter, CPA, J.H. Cohn partner and Tax Practice managing director. “His expertise will prove to be a valuable addition to our growing tax practice.”

Patrick has more than 20 years of public accounting experience. Prior to joining the Firm, he spent 17 years as the lead SALT professional for multinational and multistate companies at a Big Four firm. Patrick provides guidance and assistance with day-to-day state and local tax matters in connection with various taxes including income/franchise, sales and use, conveyance, property, and gross receipts taxes. Patrick initiated and managed the implementation of sophisticated and complex corporate restructurings and assisted with other transaction-related tasks, including due diligence and post-merger integration issues. Patrick also has significant experience representing clients before state tax authorities, including audit, refund claims, voluntary disclosures, appeals, ruling requests, and petitions. He has also worked on issues such as forced combination, unitary business, discretionary authority provisions, apportionment, and alternate apportionment methodologies.

Patrick is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA). He is the former chair of CSCPA’s State Tax Committee and currently serves on the state tax committees of the CSCPA and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. He is also a member of the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Southwest New England and is a trustee of the CSCPA’s Education Trust Fund.

He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Western Connecticut State University and his Juris Doctorate degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
