J.H. Cohn’s Melody Thornton Named President of San Diego Chapter of Cal CPA

Melody Thornton, CPA, a partner in the San Diego office of J.H. Cohn LLP, one of the top 15 accounting and consulting firms in the United States, will serve as the 2010-2011 president of the San Diego chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accounts (Cal CPA), effective May 12, 2010.
Melody most recently served as the chapter’s vice president. She previously served on the state level Taxation Committee of Cal CPA and the Cal CPA State Board of Directors. She also serves on the Membership Committee for San Diego Association for Corporate Growth.
Melody is a tax partner with 20 years of experience in tax and management consulting for public and private sector companies for various industries, including technology, light manufacturing, and distribution. She specializes in technical areas of corporate tax planning, equity-based compensation, and mergers and acquisitions. She also has extensive experience in taxation for not-for-profit organizations and in California tax issues. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Firm’s Not-for-Profit Practice, and is a member of the Firm’s Capital Markets and SEC Practice, and State and Local Tax Group. Melody graduated from the National University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.
